Those places witnessed atrocities and disenchantment, but they also sheltered acts of courage, fraternity, and resistance, and today they serve as an inspiration for the appreciation of democratic principles and the respect for diversity. The exhibition script is organized into the following modules:

Spatialities of the dictatorship in the state of São Paulo

Arranged in panels throughout the museum, an inventory of places of memory presents spaces linked to dictatorial periods in the city and state of São Paulo. The identification, communication and signaling  is developed based on the Places of Memory [Lugares da Memória] program, a line of action developed by the Memorial da Resistência since 2010. In continuous expansion, its inventory currently has more than 180 identified places.

The building and its memories

In this space, two pieces of information are articulated: in one side, there is a chronology of the building’s occupation from its construction to the present day and, on the other side, a video that presents the history and structure of Deops/SP in topics that show its various ramifications with instances of power for the control and repression of citizens.

Control, repression, and resistance: political time and memory

The notions, strategies and facts related to control, repression and resistance shape the goal of this room and contextualize this prison space within the scope of republican Brazil, presented through multimedia equipment and a chronology, among other resources.

The construction of memory: everyday life in the cells of Deops/SP

The prison complex consists of four cells, a main hallway, and a sunbathing hallway. In each of these spaces, panels and other audiovisual props present everything from the implementation process of the Memorial da Resistência to testimonies about daily life in prison.
