The Memorial da Resistência’s mission is to enhance and preserve the memory of political repression and resistance in republican Brazil, especially during its civil-military dictatorship.

We carry out this work through education, research, and the organization of thematic exhibitions. Our work is guided by the advocacy of Citizenship, democracy, and human rights.

Between 1940 and 1983, the State Department of Political and Social Order of São Paulo (Deops-SP) operated here. It was one of the most truculent political police in Brazil. Therefore, our headquarters have enormous historical and symbolic value.

We are managed by the Associação Pinacoteca Arte e Cultura (APAC) and act as a member of the The International Coalition of Sites of Conscience. Our Cultural Orientation Council is composed of: Antonio Magnoler Visconti, Carla Gibertoni Carneiro, Lauro Ávila Pereira, Marlon Alberto Weichert, Maurice Politi, Paulo de Tarso Vannuchi, and Renan Honório Quinalha.
